House Design

Once upon a time, I earned some spare change by designing houses and commercial buildings. The housing designs are from the mid 1980's to 1992, chosen from a portfolio of approximately 40 domestic and commercial projects in South East Queensland.

Faulkner residence

Faulkner Residence
(timber frame, face brick cladding, corrugated iron roof) This one was for a tough client: my own family! Features include cedar french doors, double-hung windows, brushbox timber flooring, ornamental plasterwork, cypress pine frame, quad gutters and decorative window hoods.

Hoskin Residence

Hoskin Residence
(timber frame, face brick cladding, concrete tile roof) This dwelling features Tasmanian oak floors and generous living areas. This one was a freebie for a good friend.

Johnston Residence

Johnston Residence
(timber frame, face brick cladding, concrete tile roof) The steeply sloping block of land resulted in the rear of the dwelling being 2 and a half stories high. One of several I designed for a rather charismatic property developer.

Mangan Residence

Mangan Residence
(timber pole frame, mud brick walls, corrugated iron roof) An interesting pole-house design built on a rural block. Extensive use of recycled materials. The owner formed all the mud bricks for the walls herself and the main poles were sourced from used telephone poles. Equipped with self-composting toilet facility. During the design I learnt more about composting than I really wanted to!

Taylo Residence

Taylor Residence
(timber frame, face brick cladding, concrete tile roof) Stock-standard brick and tile dwelling. Memorable for its blandness. About this time I realised that I didn't want to design houses like this any more.

Russell Residence

Russel Residence
(timber frame, face brick cladding, concrete tile roof) Large dwelling built on narrow block of land achieving maximum legal floor area for size of property. Is this a good thing?

Deagon Residence

Deagon Residence
(timber frame, face brick cladding, concrete tile roof) One of the first houses I designed and proof that, even in the 1980s, some people were still building houses from the 1960s.
